PART II: Staying Involved at Middle and High School By Linda TarrIn Part I of this article, "Staying Involved at Middle and High School," was in the 2004-2005 Winter SPPS newsletter. There, Linda Tarr identified specific practices to improve parent and family involvement. Every school in District 186 should have a parent involvement plan as part of their School Improvement Plan. In practice, the plan should create an environment where parents feel welcome and valued, and include a variety of ways for parents and family to become involved. Possible ways were listed in detail. High School Student Survey Results
The National Governors Association surveyed 10,000 high school students about what they think of their high school education. Early results found about 3 in 10 say their senior year is a waste of time and their schools do a "fair or poor" job of giving them the skills they need to succeed or challenge them academically.
